In a shocking incident that has left the entire nation in dismay, a man riding a bike without a helmet was shot at by an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Mumtaz Ahmed in Bihar’s Jehanabad district. According to reports, the man had fled the scene upon seeing the police, prompting the ASI to chase him down and eventually shoot him.
The victim has been admitted to a hospital in critical condition, and the entire police team involved in the incident has been suspended.
Meanwhile, another disturbing video has gone viral on social media, purportedly from Mathura in Uttar Pradesh, in which a police officer is seen crushing the feet of a poor man lying on a railway platform with his shoes while asking him something.
The incident has once again highlighted the lack of sensitivity and adherence to standard operating procedures (SOP) among the police in the country.
In a swift action, the ASI, identified as Mumtaz Ahmed, who fired the shot, has been arrested by the police, and a case of attempt to murder has been registered against him. The Superintendent of Police (SP) Deepak Ranjan has also suspended the entire checking team involved in the incident.
The incidents have once again raised questions about police brutality and the need for stricter measures to be put in place to ensure that police officers follow standard procedures and exercise restraint while dealing with citizens, especially those from vulnerable sections of society.
