New Delhi, 16 August 2024 – In a significant move to bolster regional connectivity and boost tourism, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given the green light to two major airport development projects in West Bengal and Bihar.
The Union Cabinet, under his leadership, approved the establishment of New Civil Enclave projects at Bagdogra in West Bengal and Bihta in Bihar during a meeting held earlier today.
These projects are expected to fill critical gaps in the tourist circuits of the respective regions, enhancing accessibility for both domestic and international travelers. Bagdogra, located near the popular hill stations of Darjeeling and Sikkim, is a key entry point for tourists exploring the northeastern part of India.
The development of a new civil enclave at this airport will significantly improve infrastructure, reducing congestion and offering better facilities for travelers.
Similarly, the Bihta airport project in Bihar will play a crucial role in improving air connectivity to Patna and the surrounding regions, which are rich in historical and cultural sites. With the addition of this new civil enclave, Bihta is set to become a significant hub for travelers, making it easier for tourists to access Bihar’s heritage destinations.
These projects are also expected to generate substantial employment opportunities in the region, as the construction and operation of the new facilities will require a skilled workforce. The improved connectivity is anticipated to attract more tourists, further contributing to the local economy.
In a statement following the Cabinet meeting, PM Modi emphasized the importance of these projects in realizing the government’s vision of a well-connected and prosperous India.
He highlighted that improved air connectivity is vital for economic growth, particularly in regions that have been historically under-served by infrastructure development.
