Kathua, Srinagar, June 4, 2024 – Terrorists opened fire in the Hiranagar area of Kathua district on Monday evening. Security forces swiftly responded to the attack, resulting in the death of one terrorist. This incident marks the second terrorist attack in Kathua in as many days, raising concerns over the escalating violence in the region.
The attack occurred around 7:30 PM when heavily armed terrorists targeted a patrol unit in Hiranagar. After a fierce exchange of fire, one terrorist was neutralized while the others managed to flee the area, leveraging the dense foliage and rugged terrain for cover.
The slain terrorist has yet to be identified, and security forces have launched a comprehensive search operation to track down the remaining assailants. Preliminary investigations suggest the involvement of a well-coordinated group with potential links to cross-border militancy.
Local authorities have heightened security measures and increased surveillance in and around Kathua to prevent further attacks. Checkpoints have been reinforced, and additional troops have been deployed to ensure the safety of residents.
This latest incident follows a similar attack that took place just a day earlier in the same district, wherein terrorists engaged in a firefight with security forces, causing injuries to two soldiers. The back-to-back attacks have left the local populace on edge, prompting calls for enhanced security and intelligence efforts.
Senior officials, including the Director General of Police (DGP), have visited the site to assess the situation and ensure that all necessary measures are in place to prevent future incidents. The DGP has also appealed to the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities promptly.
The repeated attacks in Kathua highlight the ongoing challenges faced by security forces in combating terrorism in the region. As investigations continue, the focus remains on restoring peace and stability while ensuring the safety and security of all residents.
