Ludhiana, Punjab – In a shocking incident on Friday afternoon, Punjab Shiv Sena leader Sandeep Thapar, a descendant of Indian freedom fighter and martyr Sukhdev, was brutally assaulted with swords by a group of Nihangs outside Ludhiana Civil Hospital.
Thapar’s condition was initially reported to be serious. Eyewitnesses recount that the sole police officer deployed for Thapar’s security made no effort to intervene during the assault, despite being armed with a pistol.
The lack of action from the security personnel has raised serious concerns about the adequacy of protection provided to prominent leaders in the region. In a swift response, Punjab Police have arrested two Nihangs involved in the murderous attack on Thapar.

The arrested individuals have been charged under Sections 109 (abetment), 3(5) (terrorist organization), 115(2) (abetment of offense punishable with death or imprisonment for life), 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), and 132 (abetment of mutiny) of the Indian Penal Code.
As of the latest reports, Sandeep Thapar’s condition is believed to be stable, and he is receiving medical treatment at the hospital. The incident has sent shockwaves across the state, with calls for a thorough investigation and enhanced security measures for public figures.
Authorities have assured that a comprehensive investigation will be conducted to determine the circumstances leading to the attack and the apparent negligence by the security officer on duty. Further updates on Sandeep Thapar’s condition and the investigation will be provided as more information becomes available.
