Ministry of Home Affairs Declares Meitei Extremist Organizations Unlawful, Citing Threats to National Security

In a decisive move aimed at curbing secessionist and violent activities in Manipur, the Ministry of Home Affairs has declared four Meitei extremist organizations as unlawful associations for a period of five years.

The banned groups include the Peoples’ Liberation Army (PLA) and its political wing, the Revolutionary Peoples’ Front (RPF), as well as the United National Liberation Front (UNLF) and its armed wing, the Manipur Peoples’ Army (MPA).

The government’s decision, made under the provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, comes in response to escalating concerns over the involvement of these organizations in activities that pose a serious threat to national security.

The ban, effective immediately, is a proactive measure to address the challenges posed by these groups and their alleged role in attacks on security forces, police, and civilians.

Citing instances of violence directed towards security personnel and innocent civilians, the Ministry of Home Affairs emphasized that the activities of these extremist organizations are prejudicial to India’s sovereignty and integrity.

The ban, which will remain in force for five years unless revoked earlier, empowers law enforcement agencies to take stringent action against individuals associated with these groups.

The government’s move underscores its commitment to maintaining peace and stability in the region. By proscribing these organizations, the authorities aim to disrupt their support networks and prevent any attempts to sow discord within the state.

The Ministry of Home Affairs has called upon the public to report any activities related to these banned organizations, emphasizing the need for collective efforts to ensure the safety and security of the nation.

The decision to ban these Meitei extremist organizations reflects the government’s determination to counteract secessionist and violent activities in Manipur. The Ministry of Home Affairs is closely monitoring the situation and reiterates its dedication to taking decisive action against groups that undermine the country’s peace and security.
