Bhagalpur, Bihar: In a shocking incident on Sunday evening, a section of the Bhagalpur Bridge, a crucial infrastructure project costing 1700 crores, suddenly collapsed during its construction. This incident has sparked a surge in political tensions, with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) directing its criticism towards the Nitish Kumar-led government.
The Aguwani-Sultanganj Bridge, which spans the river Ganges and connects Bhagalpur to the Khagaria district, witnessed the collapse. Thankfully, no casualties have been reported thus far. However, the collapse has ignited a wave of opposition criticism against the government, particularly after a video capturing the incident surfaced in Khagaria.
Responding swiftly to the growing concerns, Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav and Additional Chief Secretary of the Road Construction Department, Pratyay Amrit, held an impromptu press conference. They addressed the flaws in the bridge’s construction, which necessitated its demolition.
When Tej Pratap Yadav, a prominent member of the ruling party, was questioned by the media regarding the incident, he responded with a political jab, saying, “BJP wala gira diya pul…” loosely translating to “They brought down the bridge, not us. We build, and they demolish.”
