Tragic Train Collision in Andhra Pradesh: 13 Dead, 50 Injured, Rescue Efforts Ongoing

Vizianagaram, Andhra Pradesh – In a tragic incident that unfolded today, a fatal train collision occurred in Andhra Pradesh, resulting in the collision of two trains. The incident occurred on the railway tracks of Vizianagaram, leaving thirteen people confirmed dead and 50 others injured. The passenger train involved was en route from Visakhapatnam to Rayagada.

The collision involved two trains, with the front portion of train number 08532 Visakhapatnam – Palasa comprising eleven coaches reaching the next station, Alamanda, after the accident.

Simultaneously, the rear nine coaches of train number 08504 Visakhapatnam – Rayagada were pulled back to the previous station, Kantakapalle. Fortunately, all other coaches, apart from those directly affected by the collision, have been safely cleared from the accident site.

Ashwini Vaishnaw, the Railway Minister, informed the public that ongoing rescue operations are in progress, with all passengers safely evacuated from the affected area. Prime Minister Narendra Modi took cognizance of the situation and has initiated a review of the incident.

He also had discussions with the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, emphasizing that the state government and railway teams are working closely together to manage the crisis effectively.

In the wake of the tragedy, all the injured have been swiftly transferred to nearby hospitals to receive necessary medical attention. Moreover, the government has initiated the disbursement of ex-gratia compensation to the affected individuals and their families.

Under this scheme, ₹10 lakh will be provided to the families of those who lost their lives, ₹2.5 lakh will be given to those who sustained grievous injuries, and ₹50,000 will be extended to those with minor injuries.

The railway authorities and the government are leaving no stone unturned in their efforts to provide immediate relief and support to the victims of this tragic accident. The nation mourns the loss of lives and stands in solidarity with the affected families during this difficult time.
