Aluva, Kerala: In a case that shook the nation, Ashfaq Alam, a resident of Bihar, has been convicted for the brutal rape and murder of a 5-year-old girl in Aluva, Kerala. The tragic incident took place on July 28, 2023, leaving the country in shock and demanding swift justice.
The young victim was abducted, sexually assaulted, and ruthlessly strangled with her T-shirt. Ashfaq callously disposed of her lifeless body in a drain, further intensifying the heinous nature of the crime.
Prompt and decisive action by law enforcement led to Ashfaq’s arrest. Subsequently, the Ernakulam court wasted no time in bringing him to justice. The trial concluded within 4 months of the crime, underscoring the urgency with which the legal system addressed this appalling act.
Today, on November 14, the presiding judge delivered the verdict, sentencing Ashfaq Alam to death. Additionally, a fine of 7.20 lakh was imposed, reflecting the severity of the crime. The parents of the victim, who had migrated from Bihar to Kerala for employment, were present during the court proceedings.
The judge, while pronouncing the verdict, emphasized that Ashfaq Alam deserved no leniency for his brutal actions. The case has not only highlighted the urgency with which justice was served but also underscored the gravity of crimes against children.
In a significant move, Ashfaq received five life sentences under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The stringent punishment reflects the court’s commitment to safeguarding the rights and well-being of children.
