In a major crackdown on drug trafficking in Assam, the East Guwahati Police conducted a special operation in Nalapara, Basistha, resulting in the seizure of heroin worth Rs 8 crore. The police also arrested three individuals who were allegedly involved in the drug trafficking network.
According to sources, the three accused have been identified as Abdul Rosid, Muzammil Haque, and Mohammad Zamal Ali, all of whom are residents of the Basistha area. The police had received a tip-off about their involvement in the drug trade, and a team was formed to conduct the operation.
During the raid, the police seized a large quantity of heroin along with other drug paraphernalia. The three accused were arrested on the spot and have been charged under the relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Speaking to the media, the East Guwahati Police Commissioner said, “This is a major breakthrough in our fight against drug trafficking in the region. The seized heroin is worth around Rs 8 crore in the international market, and it is a significant blow to the drug trafficking network in the area.”
He also added that the police will continue to conduct such operations to root out the menace of drug trafficking from the region. The police are also investigating the source of the drugs and the network involved in their distribution.
The arrests and seizures have sent shockwaves through the local community, and people have lauded the police for their efforts to tackle drug trafficking in the region. The accused have been remanded to police custody, and further investigations are underway.
