Bihar CM Nitish Kumar Defends AIIMS Efforts as Center Cancels Darbhanga Land

Darbhanga, Bihar – In the wake of the recent cancellation of the proposed land for the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Darbhanga by the central government, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has defended his administration’s efforts in establishing the prestigious healthcare institution. Responding to criticism from Rajya Sabha member Sushil Modi, who blamed Nitish Kumar for the cancellation, the CM clarified the state government’s role in the project.

Speaking on Monday, CM Nitish Kumar stated that all necessary steps were taken by the Bihar government to facilitate the establishment of AIIMS in Darbhanga. He explained that after discussions with the central government, it was decided that the construction would not take place at Darbhanga Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) due to certain conditions. As a result, an alternative location in Shobhan was identified, which was considered the most suitable for the project.

Expressing his surprise at the cancellation, Nitish Kumar implied that the central government might have ulterior motives behind their decision. He suggested that sometimes good work is not acknowledged or supported by certain individuals. Taking a dig at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the CM emphasized that progress can only be achieved when such obstacles are overcome. He urged the media to visit the proposed site in Shobhan, highlighting ongoing preparations for road expansion and plans to enhance the existing hospital in Darbhanga.

Earlier, Sushil Modi had launched a scathing attack on Nitish Kumar during a business conference in Darbhanga, accusing him of denying medical treatment to the people of North Bihar and Mithila for political reasons. Modi alleged that the Bihar CM wanted to prevent Prime Minister Narendra Modi from receiving credit for establishing AIIMS in Darbhanga, suggesting that Nitish Kumar prioritized personal politics over public welfare.

Sushil Modi revealed that the central government had rejected the 150 acres of land in Shobhan bypass, which had been provided by the Nitish Kumar-led government for the construction of AIIMS in Darbhanga. The cancellation has raised concerns about the future of healthcare development in the region, leaving many disappointed and demanding answers.

With the cancellation of the proposed AIIMS land in Darbhanga, the state government and the central government find themselves at odds over the project. As the situation unfolds, the fate of the ambitious medical institution hangs in the balance, leaving the people of Bihar eagerly awaiting a resolution that will prioritize their healthcare needs.
