Yogi Adityanath Government, Bans Halal Certifications for Non-Export Products in Uttar Pradesh!

Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government has issued an immediate ban on the manufacturing, storage, distribution, and sale of food products carrying “Halal Certification” within the state boundaries.

The ban comes in the wake of an FIR filed by the UP Police against several organizations today, accusing them of issuing Halal certifications for a range of items, including vegetarian products such as oil, soap, toothpaste, dairy, and honey.

The organizations named in the FIR include Halal India Private Limited Chennai, Jamiat Ulema Hind Halal Trust Delhi, Halal Council of India Mumbai, and Jamiat Ulema Maharashtra Mumbai.

The FIR alleges that these organizations wrongfully granted Halal certificates for products, including those that are traditionally considered vegetarian. This has raised questions about the appropriateness of Halal certification for items like oil, soap, toothpaste, dairy, and honey, which may not typically involve non-halal ingredients.

Responding to these concerns, the Food Commissioner’s Office has issued a directive stating, “In the interest of public health, production, storing, distribution, and sale of halal certified edible items banned in Uttar Pradesh with immediate effect.” This move emphasizes the government’s commitment to ensuring the integrity of the certification process and safeguarding public health.

The complainant has expressed apprehension that there may be a criminal conspiracy behind these actions, with fears that illegal funds collected through Halal certificates might be misused in supporting terrorist organizations and anti-national activities.

This marks the first instance in Uttar Pradesh where FIRs have been registered against those involved in the sale of products associated with Halal Certification. The FIR includes charges of extortion and cheating against the entities involved.

The government’s decision to ban Halal certifications for products not intended for export purposes is a significant development. There is speculation about the funds collected through Halal certification being misused in anti-national activities.

The ban is expected to impact the significant Halal market in India, estimated at $100 billion. While legal battles and controversies may ensue, this move signifies a proactive step by the government in addressing concerns related to the certification process and ensuring the well-being of its citizens.
