Prime Minister Narendra Modi soared through the skies in a Made in India Fighter Jet Tejas at the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) facility in Bengaluru during his official visit. Speculation is rife that some major announcements may be on the horizon.
After completing a successful sortie on the Tejas, PM Modi expressed his enthusiasm, saying, “The experience was incredibly enriching, significantly bolstering my confidence in our country’s indigenous capabilities, and leaving me with a renewed sense of pride and optimism about our national potential.”
In a historic moment, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to the cockpit of the ‘Make In India’ multi-role combat aircraft in Bengaluru. Talking to Republic about the event, Group Captain Augustine Vinod (Retd.), a Defence Analyst, commented, “This Tejas has a wonderful track record and it’s extremely cost-effective. Prime Minister taking a sortie on Tejas—it’s a historical event.”
Adding to the significance of the visit, the Ministry of Defence is set to consider proposals worth 1.4 lakh crore rupees on November 30. These proposals include the approval of:
- 97 Tejas Mk1A Fighter Jets
- 156 HAL Prachand Attack Helicopters
- Repeat order for INS Vikrant Class Aircraft Carrier
- 1 Aircraft Carrier
The potential approval of these proposals underscores the government’s commitment to bolstering indigenous defense capabilities and furthering the ‘Make In India’ initiative.
