Ekam Sanatan Bharat Dal Defies Odds, Marks Presence in Elections Despite Challenges

Emerging brand new political party of India, Ekam Sanatan Bharat Dal managed to make its mark in the recent elections, even without a designated name and election symbol. Vijay Halder, the party’s candidate from the Bahoriband assembly in Madhya Pradesh, secured an impressive tally of over 1500 votes. Similarly, Sonal Moralia garnered more than 1200 votes from the Bundi seat in Rajasthan.

Addressing the media, Mr. Sandeep Deo, the National General Secretary of Ekam Sanatan Bharat Party, expressed satisfaction, stating, “This is our humble response to those who doubted our ability to even secure 1000 votes.”

However, despite the noteworthy performance, the party faced hurdles from the Election Commission, which, after the elections had commenced, did not provide a designated name and election symbol, despite the party’s application submitted six months prior. Mr. Deo lamented that having a distinct identity would have undoubtedly enhanced their electoral performance.

Ekam Sanatan Bharat Dal, supporting candidates contesting for the first time, emphasized that all their contenders ran as independents. As a relatively young party, having contested elections in only six seats across five states, the party lacked both resources and a substantial workforce.

The Election Commission’s intervention before the elections, obtaining a stay order from the High Court, temporarily halted the party’s name and common election symbol. In Madhya Pradesh, internal divisions emerged, fueled by external support, leading to a factional split and attempts to disrupt the party’s electoral campaign.

Despite these challenges, the party and its candidates demonstrated resilience, successfully establishing a presence in electoral politics. Mr. Deo highlighted the positive outcome of increased party recognition and the learning experience gained by party workers in the electoral process.

Acknowledging the party’s relative newness and the diverse backgrounds of its members, Mr. Deo expressed the need for continued learning through practical experience. Looking ahead to the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, he emphasized the party’s objective to secure at least one representative, advocating for the issues of the broader Sanatan Community in the Parliament. This, he believes, would constitute a genuine victory for all Sanatanis.
