Joe Biden to Arrive in Delhi Tomorrow Will Hold Bilateral with PM Modi: Washington

Washington, D.C., September 9, 2023 – The White House has confirmed that United States President Joe Biden is set to embark on a visit to India, with his arrival in New Delhi scheduled for tomorrow. During his visit, President Biden is slated to hold crucial discussions with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

President Biden’s three-day visit kicks off with a brief stopover in Ramstein, Germany, on Friday, en route to New Delhi. Upon landing in the Indian capital, the US President will engage in a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the same day, per a statement released by the White House.

Saturday will witness President Biden’s official arrival in India, marked by a handshake with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Following this, he will participate in the G20 Leaders’ Summit Session 1 themed “One Earth.” Later in the day, he will join the G20 Leaders’ Summit Session 2, focusing on “One Family.” Additionally, President Biden is scheduled to participate in a Partnership for Global Infrastructure and Investment event. The day will culminate with a dinner and cultural program attended by G20 Leaders.

On Sunday, the US President will visit the Raj Ghat Memorial, accompanied by other G20 Leaders. Afterward, he will depart from New Delhi for Hanoi, Vietnam.

In Hanoi, President Biden will be welcomed with a ceremony hosted by General Secretary Nguyễn Phú Trọng of the Communist Party of Vietnam. Subsequently, he will hold a meeting with General Secretary Nguyễn Phú Trọng, during which both leaders are expected to deliver remarks. Following the meeting, President Biden will address the press in a press conference, as announced by the White House.

A White House official has noted that President Biden and Prime Minister Modi will discuss the G20 agenda, focusing on economic cooperation and multilateral investment opportunities. The American leader is keen on advancing multilateral development bank reform and reshaping, further emphasizing the significance of these discussions.

John Kirby, National Security Council (NSC) coordinator for strategic communications, has indicated that the talks between PM Modi and President Biden may also encompass topics such as climate issues and the ongoing Ukraine conflict.

The upcoming 18th G20 Heads of State and Government Summit in New Delhi represents the culmination of a year-long series of meetings and discussions involving ministers, senior officials, and civil societies. It promises to be a pivotal event for shaping global cooperation and addressing critical challenges.
