Renowned Pune Doctor Arrested in Maharashtra ISIS Module Case | NIA Makes 5th Arrest

New Delhi, 27th July 2023: In a significant development in the ongoing investigation into the ISIS Maharashtra module case, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) made another arrest on Thursday, apprehending Dr. Adnanali Sarkar (43), a prominent figure in Pune’s medical community. This doctor has been working at Noble Hospital in Pune. The arrest marks the fifth in the case since it was registered on 28th June 2023.

The NIA’s operation led to the raid at Dr. Sarkar’s residence in Kondhwa, Pune, where the agency discovered substantial incriminating evidence, including electronic gadgets and documents directly linked to the terrorist organization ISIS. These materials exposed Dr. Sarkar’s involvement in propagating the violent ideologies of the proscribed terrorist outfit and his role in luring and recruiting susceptible young individuals to join their ranks.

According to NIA’s investigations, the accused had meticulously conspired to advance ISIS’s nefarious terrorist activities, operating under various aliases such as Islamic State (IS), Islamic State of Iraq and Levant (ISIL), Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), Daish, Islamic State in Khorasan Province (ISKP), ISIS Wilayat Khorasan, and Islamic State of Iraq and the Sham Khorasan (ISIS-K).

The agency believes that Dr. Sarkar’s intentions were to undermine the unity, integrity, security, and sovereignty of the nation and incite violence against the Government of India as part of the ISIS conspiracy, specifically executed through the ‘Maharashtra ISIS module.’

Prior to Dr. Sarkar’s arrest, the NIA had apprehended four other suspects on 3rd July 2023 during extensive search operations conducted in Mumbai, Thane, and Pune. The individuals arrested were identified as Tabish Nasser Siddiqui from Mumbai, Zubair Noor Mohammed Shaikh (known as Abu Nusaiba) from Pune, and Sharjeel Shaikh and Zulfikar Ali Barodawala from Thane.

The investigation into the Maharashtra ISIS module case is ongoing, with the NIA determined to uncover the full extent of the ISIS conspiracy and bring all responsible parties to justice.

As the nation grapples with the threat of terrorism, the authorities remain vigilant, committed to safeguarding the country’s security, and countering any potential threats posed by terrorist organizations.
